A senior British parliamentarian has demanded that London impose complete sanctions and political isolation on Israel over its military actions in the occupied West Bank.
John McDonnell, the Labour member of parliament for Hayes and Harlington, issued the appeal on Tuesday through X.
He warned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was initiating steps to transform the West Bank into a second territory resembling Gaza.
"The message needs to go out that this extension of the genocide will not be tolerated," McDonnell wrote, adding that the British government must take immediate action.
The remarks came after reports that Israel had launched a campaign of collective punishment targeting Palestinians in Hebron.
That military activity followed an incident where gunmen killed two Israeli soldiers and wounded three others near a security checkpoint outside the city.
Netanyahu announced during an incursion into Hebron that his military forces were preparing a large-scale offensive across the occupied West Bank.
The planned operation involves both home raids and the displacement of Palestinian residents from their neighbourhoods.
Earlier this month, McDonnell urged the British administration to move beyond partial measures against Israel.
He previously stated that current actions do not go far enough and called for a total halt to arms sales alongside the complete termination of trade.
"It is important that they have introduced some sanctions against the Israeli settlements," McDonnell said in an earlier interview, maintaining that overall sanctions are necessary.
