The Quran explicitly addresses this in Surah An-Nisa, 4:29, stating, And do not kill yourselves. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful. This verse serves as an absolute prohibition against suicide in any form.
Similarly, resorting to illicit acts or immorality as a means of financial survival is strictly forbidden. Islam mandates that moral integrity must be maintained, regardless of economic hardship. Surah Al-Isra, 17:32, warns against approaching acts of adultery and immorality, describing them as heinous paths. Forcing dependents or family members into immoral conduct to repay debts is not only sinful but also a grave injustice, which Islam explicitly condemns. In Surah An-Nur, 24:33, the Quran forbids compelling women into prostitution, emphasizing the sanctity of personal dignity.
If a parent or guardian demands compliance in sinful activities, Islamic law dictates that such orders must be rejected. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) established a fundamental principle in Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 7145, affirming that there is no obedience to the creation if it involves disobedience to the Creator. Compliance is reserved strictly for righteous acts. Instead of despairing, the Islamic approach encourages individuals to seek patience, turn to lawful means of income, and utilize community support systems or trusted counselors to address financial crises.
The gates of divine mercy remain open for those who truly repent and seek to rectify their paths. Surah Az-Zumar, 39:53, provides profound comfort, advising believers not to despair of the mercy of Allah, even if they have committed major transgressions. The path forward lies in turning away from prohibited activities, seeking forgiveness, and striving through halal, or permissible, avenues to rebuild one`s life. The core of Islamic teaching in times of crisis is resilience, faith, and the steadfast pursuit of righteousness over the temporary relief of prohibited actions.
