The first-year undergraduate (Honours) admission test for the 2025-2026 academic session of the National University (NU) is scheduled to take place today, Saturday, April 25, 2026.
This high-stakes competitive examination will be held simultaneously across 138 selected centers in divisional and district towns nationwide. The exam is set to begin at 11:00 AM and will conclude at 12:00 PM, lasting exactly one hour.
This year, a staggering 452,875 students are participating in the admission battle. They are competing for seats in 880 colleges, including 375 government and 505 private institutions.
Data from the university`s central admission cell shows a sharp contrast in competition levels between government and private sectors. For the 270,520 seats available in government colleges, approximately 394,229 students have applied. Meanwhile, private colleges, which offer 182,355 seats, have seen only 58,119 applicants. This disparity highlights the overwhelming preference for government institutions among Bangladeshi students.
University authorities have issued a comprehensive set of guidelines to ensure the examination proceeds without any irregularities. Candidates who failed to download their admit cards in time are permitted to appear at their designated centers with their primary application form, HSC registration card, and the roll number received via SMS.
However, security protocols are strict; any discrepancy between the photo on the application form and the candidate`s actual appearance will result in immediate disqualification. Furthermore, students whose applications were not confirmed by their respective colleges online will not be allowed to participate in the test.
Strict conduct rules are being enforced inside the examination halls. Candidates must arrive at their respective centers at least one hour before the starting time, as no entry will be allowed once the clock strikes 11:00 AM.
The use of electronic devices, including mobile phones and calculators, is strictly prohibited. For the OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) sheets, students are required to use black ballpoint pens only; the use of pencils is strictly forbidden. Any student found writing their phone number or any symbolic marks on the OMR sheet will have their answer script canceled immediately.
The admission test will follow the Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) format, worth a total of 100 marks. Each correct answer carries one mark, and the minimum passing grade is set at 35. The question paper is structured to test various proficiencies, including 20 marks for Bengali, 20 for English, 20 for General Knowledge, and 40 marks dedicated to subject-specific questions based on the candidate`s Higher Secondary background.
The final merit list will be calculated using a weighted system: 100 marks from the admission test combined with 40% of the SSC GPA and 60% of the HSC GPA. As the nation watches this massive logistical feat, the university administration has expressed its commitment to maintaining transparency throughout the grading process.
