The Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) has reached a significant academic milestone by securing the top position among all private universities in the country in the SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) 2026. According to the recently published global report, BUBT has ranked first among private institutions in both the "Engineering" (overall category) and "Research" (all subject areas) divisions. This achievement highlights the university`s growing stature as a premier hub for high-quality research and technological innovation in the South Asian region.
The SCImago Institutions Rankings is a prestigious global assessment based on three core pillars: research performance, innovation output, and societal impact. The ranking utilizes data from Scopus-indexed publications to evaluate thousands of academic and research-oriented institutions worldwide. In the 2026 edition, BUBT earned a global rank of 1766 in Engineering and 4598 in the research category across all subject areas. On the national scale, BUBT has been placed 11th among all public and private universities in Bangladesh, a testament to its competitive academic environment.
University officials have credited this success to visionary leadership, strategic research planning, and the persistent efforts of faculty members and research assistants. A pivotal role has been played by the BUBT Research Graduate School (RGS), which has been instrumental in fostering a research-friendly ecosystem. By encouraging faculty to publish in high-impact international journals and providing the necessary infrastructure for applied research, RGS has significantly boosted the university`s global academic visibility. The ranking in the engineering category specifically validates BUBT`s contributions to applied and technological advancements.
Professor Dr. ABM Shawkat Ali, the Vice-Chancellor of BUBT, expressed his immense pride in this recognition. In an official statement, he extended his heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Muhammad Aminur Rahman, the Dean of the Research Graduate School, and the entire community of researchers. The Vice-Chancellor noted that this recognition is a clear reflection of the university`s commitment to enhancing its research capabilities and solidifying its international standing. He emphasized that such milestones serve as a catalyst for future growth and academic excellence.
The Research Graduate School further stated that this accomplishment aligns with the university`s long-term vision and the direction provided by the Board of Trustees. It is expected that this global recognition will attract more international collaborations and provide BUBT graduates with better opportunities in global markets. Furthermore, this ranking strengthens the confidence of stakeholders in the university`s future trajectory. BUBT remains dedicated to its mission of advancing knowledge through research and innovation, aiming to contribute significantly to both national and international development in the years to come.
