Trump Demands Immediate Congressional Resignation of Representative Ilhan Omar

US President Donald Trump has called for Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar to resign from office immediately. The demand follows a federal court filing that used a different name for the federal lawmaker.

A document submitted on Wednesday by the office of US Attorney Jeanine Pirro referred to the congresswoman as Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, also known as Ilhan Abdullahi Omar. Trump pointed to the filing during a campaign rally in Iowa, where he also addressed longstanding claims regarding her former marriage.

The court filing involves legal efforts to keep materials sealed regarding a federal search warrant executed at the Washington area home of the congresswoman. Federal agents searched the residence on October 12, seizing her passport, computers, phone, and other documents just weeks before the midterm elections.

Trump took to his social media account to amplify the allegations. He stated that the name used to get elected and sworn into Congress was incorrect and pointed to the shared surname with her former husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi.

When previously asked whether she had married her brother, the congresswoman replied that she did not know to her knowledge. Trump argued that such a response implied she used a false identity to take the oath of office.

He called for the Speaker of the House of Representatives, James Michael Johnson, to be informed about the matter. He claimed that the opposition party had conceded her seat and alleged that she admitted to fraud.

A separate federal investigation is currently examining how the congresswoman obtained United States citizenship. Investigators are also reviewing whether she or her late father misrepresented her age on official immigration documents.
