Sheikh Ali bin Abdur Rahman Al-Hudhaifi has been appointed to deliver the Hajj sermon at the historic plain of Arafat this year. A senior Imam of Masjid an-Nabawi, Sheikh Al-Hudhaifi will address the pilgrims gathered at Masjid Namira on the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah. This prestigious religious duty has been assigned under the approval of the Saudi Royal Court.His appointment is a significant moment for the global Muslim community.
Born in 1947 in Saudi Arabia`s Mecca province, Sheikh Al-Hudhaifi has dedicated decades to serving at the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, assuming his role there in 1979. He is a scholar of significant stature, holding a master`s degree and a PhD in Islamic Law from Al-Azhar University in Egypt. Beyond his long tenure at the Prophet’s Mosque, he has also led prayers at the Grand Mosque in Mecca during Ramadan, earning deep respect for his articulate and melodious recitation of the Quran.
Sheikh Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, head of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, confirmed the appointment. The selection was made following directives from the Saudi leadership. The Arafat sermon is a pivotal moment in the Hajj pilgrimage, symbolizing unity and providing spiritual guidance to millions.
Standing on the plain of Arafat is the core pillar of the Hajj pilgrimage. Following the sermon, pilgrims will perform the Dhuhr and Asr prayers together and remain on the plain until sunset, engaging in deep prayer and reflection.
