Cody Bellinger Named MVP of 2026 MLB All-Star Game

New York Yankees centre fielder Cody Bellinger was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2026 Major League Baseball All-Star Game on Tuesday night. The 31-year-old outfielder helped lead the American League to a 4-0 victory over the National League at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Bellinger provided the decisive offensive spark in the first inning with a two-run single off Cristopher Sanchez, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

The achievement held personal significance as Bellinger’s father, former Major Leaguer Clay Bellinger, watched from the stands. Clay played for the Yankees between 1999 and 2001, winning two World Series titles. Following the game, the elder Bellinger expressed his pride, noting that while he knew his son was a talented player, seeing him perform at this level was exceptional. Cody becomes the fourth player in Yankees history to receive the All-Star Game MVP award, joining Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, and Giancarlo Stanton.

Bellinger signed a five-year contract with the Yankees last winter, a deal valued at $162.5m. Despite a mid-season slump that saw his batting average dip, he has remained a central figure in the team‍‍`s offence. Drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2013, he earned National League Rookie of the Year honours in 2017 and later secured a league MVP award. After stints with the Cubs and navigating injuries in previous seasons, he has found a comfortable rhythm in New York.

Celebrating on the field after receiving the award from Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt, Bellinger was joined by his wife and two daughters. He noted that wearing the Yankees jersey carries significant responsibility and pride. As he looks to the remainder of the season, the MVP title serves as a validation of his return to form after a challenging period in his career.
