Proper Qurbani Hide Preservation Can Boost National Economy: Minister

Proper management and preservation of hides and byproducts from sacrificial animals during Qurbani can contribute significantly to the national economy, according to Fisheries and Livestock Minister Amin Ur Rashid. Speaking at the "Qurbani Training Workshop-2026" held at the Krishibid Institution in Dhaka, the minister noted that maintaining the quality of hides is crucial for expanding export opportunities and earning foreign currency.

Skilled manpower is essential for this sensitive task.

The minister highlighted that a vast number of people are involved in slaughtering, skinning, and processing meat and hides during the festival. Without adequate training, the sensitive skinning process can compromise the quality of the hide, leading to a substantial decrease in its market value. Specialized training is the key to minimizing these losses.Minister Rashid proposed training students to create a skilled workforce.

He suggested that involving madrasa students and youth in vocational training could create a pool of qualified workers. This initiative would not only improve the quality of hides but also provide short-term income opportunities for students. The government is currently considering extending such training programs throughout the year. The minister underscored the importance of government support.

Since most sacrificial hides are donated to madrasas, the government continues to provide necessary support, including the supply of salt for preservation. By ensuring proper fat removal and salt application, the quality of the leather produced can be significantly enhanced. Minister Rashid also urged citizens to remain cautious against purchasing illegally imported livestock to protect local farmers.
