American singer, actress, and film director Barbra Streisand will not attend the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival later this month due to a sudden knee injury. The legendary star was scheduled to personally accept the Honorary Palme d`Or, an accolade equivalent to a lifetime achievement award. Despite her physical absence from the venue, the festival organizers confirmed that she will still be officially honored during the high-profile ceremony.
She reached the decision following strict medical advice.
In an official statement, the iconic performer expressed deep sadness over her inability to travel while navigating the recovery process for her leg. However, she noted that she remains profoundly moved to receive the Honorary Palme d`Or and is eagerly looking forward to celebrating the extraordinary cinematic selections of the 79th edition from afar. Streisand added that she had been highly enthusiastic about spending time with respected international colleagues and returning to France, a destination she has always loved.
The current edition of the prestigious festival has already recognized other prominent industry figures. During the opening ceremony, acclaimed director Peter Jackson was presented with an Honorary Palme d`Or. Additionally, Hollywood star John Travolta received the award following the premiere of his directorial debut feature film. The 79th Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to officially conclude its historic run on May 23.
