Iran is moving to enhance its military power. Defense officials stated that the country is rapidly increasing its armed forces and smart combat capabilities.
The military expansion follows directives from Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. Speaking to reporters, Akhlaghi outlined the scope of the new defense posture.
We are rapidly increasing our armed forces combat capabilities to be able to respond without geographical limits, Akhlaghi said during his briefing.
He added that the Islamic Republic would not be caught off guard or stopped by external pressure. Any type of attack will receive an appropriate, decisive and effective response, he warned.
Akhlaghi also stressed that the nation would not be surprised by threats. He stated that the country would not be dependent on the will of others while pursuing scientific and technological progress.
The defense remarks coincide with ongoing diplomatic efforts in the region. Qatar and Pakistan are continuing mediation work to revive negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Reports indicate some progress in indirect talks held in Doha. These diplomatic discussions seek understandings on the Iranian nuclear program, sanctions relief and the security of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Regional tensions have remained high since the United States and Israel launched attacks against Iran on February 28. Those military strikes triggered Iranian retaliation across the region.
Diplomatic efforts followed the initial conflict, including a memorandum signed by Washington and Tehran in June. However, tensions have persisted over security arrangements and navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
