Israeli forces pressed on with military incursions across Hebron and surrounding towns on Tuesday. It marked the sixth consecutive day of a tightened military lockdown in the southern West Bank governorate.
Local sources reported that military units and armoured vehicles moved into several towns and the al-Fawwar refugee camp south of the city around midnight. Soldiers entered and searched Palestinian homes during the nighttime operations.
At the same time, the military intensified restrictions at all entrances leading into Hebron. Soldiers at checkpoints near the al-Jaladah roundabout stopped local residents, searched them, and subjected individuals to harsh treatment.
The current military offensive began on Friday after an attack by two Palestinians left two Israeli soldiers dead and three others wounded. The army subsequently killed both attackers.
The Hebron Municipality released a statement on Tuesday evening detailing the humanitarian toll of the operation. Officials said the number of displaced Palestinians in the city had risen to 4,969 people, affecting 780 families.
Mass arrests accompanied the military sweep across the region. The Palestinian Prisoner Society, an independent non-governmental organisation, stated that soldiers detained 85 Palestinians across the Hebron governorate between Friday and Monday.
These actions form part of a broader escalation of military attacks and violence against Palestinians across the West Bank and East Jerusalem. That wider campaign has intensified since Israel launched its military offensive in the Gaza Strip in October 2023.
