Global football governing body FIFA has announced that an official review of the withdrawn FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal will be presented to the FIFA Council. The decision follows pointed criticism from Denmark Football Association Chairman Jesper Moller regarding a perceived lack of transparency over the abandoned project.
Moller recently rebuked the governing body for declining to answer critical questions during a Legal Committee meeting.
The scrapped proposal, spearheaded by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, aimed to sell commercial stakes in major tournaments—including a 20 percent stake in the World Cup and other core events—to external investors. The initiative triggered an immediate global backlash, with major confederations including UEFA, the AFC, and CONCACAF demanding structural changes to FIFA’s leadership and discussing the possibility of a no-confidence vote against Infantino.
A united European front has since crystallized against the administration.
Several European national associations have officially withdrawn support for Infantino’s upcoming re-election bid. Greek Football Association President Makis Gagatsis and former Germany national team director Oliver Bierhoff joined UEFA’s coordinated push for leadership reform on Tuesday, amplifying internal pressure on the presidency.
Despite mounting opposition, multiple sources familiar with ongoing discussions informed Reuters that Infantino retains sufficient backing among global member associations to secure another term in office. Consequently, political opponents within European federations are reportedly shifting their strategic focus toward curbing the president’s extensive executive powers rather than mounting a direct electoral challenge.
The upcoming FIFA presidential election is officially scheduled for March 18, 2027, in Rabat, Morocco, where Infantino will contest his fourth term.
