The mysterious death of 33-year-old Indian model and actress Twisha Sharma in the central city of Bhopal has sparked an extraordinary media frenzy and nationwide outrage over allegations of brutal dowry harassment. Sharma was found dead in her matrimonial home on May 12, just five months after marrying a local lawyer named Samarth Singh.

Her parents and siblings have explicitly alleged that she was systematically tortured and ultimately murdered by her husband and her mother-in-law. The case has dominated headlines across India, throwing a harsh spotlight on the persistent social evil of dowry violence within affluent and influential families. The victim‍‍`s husband, Samarth Singh, has vanished and remains at large as a fugitive from justice.

The high-profile nature of the case stems largely from the prominent social standing of the accused family, particularly Sharma‍‍`s mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, who is a retired judge. In India, members of the powerful judiciary are culturally expected to uphold the law by example, making these criminal allegations deeply shocking to the public.

Local police officials confirmed that authorities have registered a formal dowry death case against the Singh family while aggressively investigating whether the death was a homicide or a suicide. A cash reward has been announced for any information leading to Samarth‍‍`s arrest, and a federal lookout notice has been issued to prevent him from fleeing the country.

A local court in Bhopal granted anticipatory bail to the retired judge but summarily rejected her son‍‍`s bail application, ordering him to surrender immediately. Giribala Singh claimed she does not know her son‍‍`s current whereabouts, stating that their legal counsel advised him to stay hidden to avoid public lynching amid hostile media coverage. She has vehemently denied all criminal accusations, calling them entirely baseless while counter-claiming that Sharma suffered from severe mental health issues and committed suicide.

The former judge lamented that her son had lost his deeply loved life companion and that her family was being denied the opportunity to grieve due to a biased public tirade.

Meanwhile, Sharma‍‍`s grieving family refused to cremate her body, demanding a second independent post-mortem examination to verify the true cause of death. The initial autopsy report confirmed that the cause of death was hanging but explicitly noted several physical injuries sustained across her body prior to her death. On Friday, the high court formally accepted the family‍‍`s urgent request, ordering a comprehensive second autopsy to ensure judicial transparency. An online justice campaign has rapidly gained traction on social media, amplifying public demands for an impartial investigation into the influential political and legal clan.

Twisha Sharma was a celebrated figure who was crowned Miss Pune in 2012, subsequently appearing in high-profile advertising campaigns, acting in a Telugu-language film, and working as a marketing professional. Friends and former colleagues described her as a happy, generous, and highly ambitious individual who had high hopes for her future.

Her family revealed that she met Samarth through a popular digital dating application in 2024 before solemnizing their marriage in a lavish ceremony in December 2025. Despite receiving a substantial dowry during the wedding, the Singh family allegedly subjected Sharma to constant humiliation, taunting her that the arrangement failed to match their elite social standards.

The legal friction escalated heavily after Sharma‍‍`s family released recent electronic text messages in which she detailed horrific physical and emotional abuse, describing her life as a living hell. The situation reached a breaking point in April when Sharma became pregnant, prompting her husband and mother-in-law to maliciously question her character and accuse her of infidelity.

The family alleges that the in-laws forced her to undergo an abortion in early May, a claim the retired judge denies by insisting that the abortion was entirely Sharma‍‍`s choice. Her father, Navnidhi Sharma, stated that during their final phone call on the night of her death, the line abruptly disconnected, followed twenty minutes later by a call from Giribala Singh announcing that his daughter was dead.
