The Ukrainian Navy claimed on Monday that Russian military forces carried out a targeted drone strike on a Chinese commercial cargo ship navigating the Black Sea. The statement, released via official military communication channels on May 18, included photographic evidence detailing the immediate aftermath of the maritime strike. According to Ukrainian naval authorities, the Chinese-owned vessel was positioned a short distance from the strategic port city of Odesa when the explosive drone directly impacted its hull.
The drone strike immediately triggered a fire on board the vessel.
Official documentation from the Ukrainian military indicates that a significant portion of the Chinese cargo carrier suffered partial structural damage from the blast. Emergency maritime rescue teams and naval firefighting units based out of Odesa were immediately dispatched to secure the vessel and extinguish the remaining flames.
