According to reports from BBC News and Reuters, thousands of individuals remain unaccounted for as emergency responders struggle to access remote and severely devastated areas.
In an effort to reach hundreds of workers trapped inside subterranean structures since earlier in the week, a controlled explosion was executed at a tunnel site in Trishuli during the early hours of Monday. Rescue teams are utilizing specialized canine units and heavy equipment to search through debris and mudslides. Administrative figures indicate that over nine hundred hydropower workers are missing from various project sites nationwide.
Total unaccounted-for individuals have risen sharply, with more than four thousand people currently missing. This group includes over three thousand six hundred Nepali citizens and nearly six hundred foreign nationals. Funerals for recovered victims are currently being held across different districts, with grieving families bidding final farewells in deeply emotional ceremonies, such as services held in Chitwan.
Across the border in Tibet, the severe weather has also claimed lives and caused widespread destruction. Chinese state media reported that the official death toll in Tibet stands at sixteen, while over five hundred people remain missing. Authorities in the region have also penalized ten individuals for disseminating unverified information and online misinformation regarding the crisis. Rescue operations remain ongoing as agencies race against time to locate survivors.
