Top Indian Physicists Express Solidarity with Iran, Palestine Academics

A collective of India’s most distinguished physicists specializing in string theory has issued a strong statement of solidarity with academic communities in Iran, Palestine, and Lebanon. The group, comprising over 50 prominent scholars, unequivocally condemned recent military attacks on universities and civilian research institutions in the Middle East. According to reports from Al Jazeera, the signatories represent the cutting edge of global theoretical physics research.

The statement includes endorsements from globally renowned award-winners such as Ashoke Sen and Spenta Wadia. These scientists, hailing from India’s premier technology and research institutes, expressed deep concern over what they described as a "war initiated by the United States and Israel." They highlighted specific targets including Iran’s Sharif University of Technology and Shahid Beheshti University, as well as the Lebanese University, all of which have suffered damages during recent hostilities.

The Indian physicists pointed specifically to the total destruction of the educational infrastructure in the Gaza Strip. "Almost all universities and schools there have been destroyed," the statement noted, characterizing the systematic targeting of civilian educational sites as a crime against humanity. They warned that such actions would inflict irreparable long-term harm on the future of global research and the intellectual heritage of these regions.

India is recognized as a world leader in the field of string theory, and this intervention by its scientific elite marks a significant moment of political engagement within the global academic community. The scholars emphasized that the loss of life is compounded by the destruction of institutions that serve as pillars of human knowledge. This call for solidarity comes amid reports of continued strikes in southern Lebanon and Gaza, which have claimed several lives despite fragile ceasefire agreements.
