Rafiqul Islam Madani Announces Second Marriage on FB

Maulana Rafiqul Islam Madani, the founder of Markazu Shahabuddin Al Islami Madrasa and a prominent Islamic speaker, has officially confirmed his second marriage. In a detailed post shared on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday morning, Madani addressed his followers about his decision to enter a polygamous union, known in Shariah as "Masna." The announcement has rapidly spread across social media platforms, sparking intense debate and curiosity regarding his personal life and the religious justifications provided for the move.

Madani stated in his post that his primary motivation was his fear of the Creator and a profound desire to avoid sinful behavior. He emphasized that for a believer, choosing a legitimate marriage over immoral actions is a priority, even if society perceives it as a "difficult decision." He noted that while modern society often overlooks adultery, it frequently stigmatizes a second marriage that follows religious protocols. His statement was aimed at silencing critics and encouraging a Shariah-compliant lifestyle among his vast audience.

While the marriage itself became a major headline, another intriguing development emerged regarding his familial connection with Mufti Mamunur Rashid Kashemi. Kashemi, the founder of an "Ideal Marriage Bureau," is a controversial figure who has reportedly married nine times. On Wednesday afternoon, Kashemi posted his own clarification on social media, explaining how he and Madani are now related through a complex web of marriages. This revelation added another layer of intrigue to the story, as the public attempted to decode the convoluted relationship between the two Islamic figures.

According to Mufti Kashemi’s explanation, the two are technically "Vayra Bhai" (married to sisters or close relatives in the same family line). Kashemi explained that he is married to the daughter of Hafez Imam Uddin’s second wife. Meanwhile, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Madani has married the younger sister of Hafez Imam Uddin’s fourth wife. Kashemi jokingly remarked that because of these ties, Madani has essentially become a "father-in-law" figure in a metaphorical sense, although they are now brothers-in-law through their respective marriages into the same extended family tree.

Mufti Kashemi‍‍`s involvement has raised eyebrows due to his legal history. In November 2023, he was arrested by police in the Keraniganj area of Dhaka following allegations of fraud and harassment involving several women. Police records from that time revealed that of his nine marriages, four wives currently remain with him, while three had divorced him, and the status of the others remained uncertain. The association of Madani—a widely followed speaker—with such a controversial character has caused some concern among his more traditional supporters.

Despite the controversy, Madani remains steadfast in his public stance. He argued that his second marriage was a necessary step to protect his morality in a challenging modern environment. Social media reactions have been deeply divided, with some praising his honesty and adherence to religious law, while others have criticized the optics of the announcement and his choice of associates. The discussion has also highlighted the broader social challenges regarding polygamy in contemporary Bangladesh.

As of now, no further official statements have been released by law enforcement regarding Mufti Kashemi’s current status, but his social media activity remains high. For Maulana Rafiqul Islam Madani, this second marriage marks a new chapter in his personal life, one that he has chosen to live openly despite the inevitable public scrutiny. The unfolding story continues to dominate the digital landscape, reflecting the intersection of religious practice, social media influence, and public morality in the country.
