Pakistan Confirms Ratification of Mecca Defence Pact With Türkiye and Saudi Arabia

Pakistan announced on Tuesday that it has officially ratified the strategic defence agreement signed earlier with Türkiye and Saudi Arabia. The announcement followed the completion of similar ratification procedures by Saudi Arabia, according to official statements.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman originally signed the accord on August 7 in Mecca.

The defence pact reflects a shared commitment among Pakistan, Türkiye, and Saudi Arabia to strengthen collective defence and cooperation for regional security and stability, according to a transcript provided by officials. Matters related to the agreement, its ratification, and operationalization remain under discussion by the three parties.

Discussions have included the Strategic Political and Defense Committee, which held its most recent meeting on October 5. Each of the three nations follows its own constitutional and legal procedures for the approval and ratification of international agreements.

Islamabad remains fully committed to the letter and spirit of the agreement, officials stated. The pact is defensive in nature and consistent with the United Nations Charter. Its primary objective is promoting regional peace, security, and stability.

The agreement shows the commitments of Türkiye, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia to developing regional solutions to regional problems through a shared strategic vision aimed at strengthening security via collective deterrence and defence.
