Yemeni Army Reports Over 300 Houthi Fighters Neutralised in 24 Hours

The Yemeni army stated on Tuesday that more than 300 Houthi fighters were neutralised during military operations over the preceding 24 hours. These operations formed part of the ongoing Dawn of Yemen offensive.

Military authorities reported that the offensive targeted Houthi command centres, troop concentrations, reinforcements, weapons depots, and supply routes. The army did not specify the exact breakdown of how many fighters were killed or wounded.

There was no immediate comment from the Houthi group regarding the reported casualties. In the southwestern Taiz province, the army struck a command centre, heavy weapons positions, and arms depots inside an abandoned hotel.

The military accused the Houthis of converting the hotel into an observation post and firing position. According to the army, these positions were used to threaten residential neighbourhoods and maintain a prolonged siege of the city.

Government troops also carried out tactical raids to suppress hostile fire from the area. Fighting is active in Taiz, where government forces maintain control of the city centre.

Meanwhile, the Houthis have achieved recent territorial gains in rural and coastal areas surrounding the province. Yemen has been engulfed in severe conflict since late 2014.

The crisis escalated when Houthi forces seized the capital Sanaa and several other provinces. That takeover prompted a Saudi-led military coalition to intervene in 2015 to support the internationally recognised government.

The Houthis retain control over much of northern and western Yemen. Government forces and their regional allies maintain authority over Aden and large parts of the southern and eastern provinces.
