Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el Sisi warned on Tuesday of catastrophic regional consequences if military conflict between the United States and Iran restarts. Speaking alongside Slovenian President Natasa Pirc Musar in Cairo, Sisi called for a comprehensive agreement that addresses the primary demands and concerns of both nations.
The Egyptian leader urged all parties to pursue dialogue before it is too late. He cautioned that renewed military operations would trigger severe humanitarian and economic fallout extending far beyond the immediate region.
Sisi described US President Donald Trump as a man of peace, stating on Tuesday that he felt confident Trump would give mediators the backing needed to secure a lasting deal.
Egypt will collaborate closely with regional and international partners, Sisi pledged. The objective is to ease ongoing diplomatic frictions and help secure a peaceful settlement to the crisis.
During the press conference, the Egyptian president addressed Gulf security directly. He rejected any threat directed at the security of Saudi Arabia or other Gulf states, reaffirming Cairo’s firm solidarity with them.
His remarks coincided with ongoing Qatari diplomatic efforts. Qatar continues to mediate between Washington and Tehran amid persistent tensions over the US naval blockade and maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran stated on Monday that it was still exchanging messages with the United States through appointed mediators. Tehran maintained that reopening the strategic strait depends entirely on Washington ending its naval blockade.
Military hostilities between the US and Israel against Iran began on February 28. Tehran retaliated by targeting Israel and American assets in the region before the parties reached a ceasefire agreement in April.
Washington and Tehran subsequently signed a memorandum of understanding concerning freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz on June 18. Implementation of the agreement stalled due to lingering disagreements over regional security protocols in the waterway.
