Mecca Defense Alliance Open to Regional Nations Sharing Peace Vision

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that the recently formed Mecca Defense Alliance is open to regional countries that share a common vision for peace. Fidan made the remarks in an article written for the November issue of AA Briefing, a monthly magazine published by Anadolu.

Türkiye signed the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense alongside Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. The three nations established the pact because they share a vision of applying regional solutions to local problems.

The primary objective of the alliance is to contribute directly to regional stability by strengthening deterrence. Fidan stressed that the current global governance system is experiencing a turbulent period with the Middle East positioned at the centre of global challenges.

He stated that the joint pact aligns with Ankara’s strategic foreign policy priorities. These include strengthening regional peace, supporting prosperity, expanding the institutional framework of foreign relations, and contributing to the transformation of the global system.

"The Mecca Defense Alliance lies at the intersection of our strategic foreign policy priorities, which can be summarized as strengthening regional peace and stability, supporting development and prosperity, expanding the institutional framework of our foreign relations, and contributing to the transformation of the global system," Fidan wrote.

The article also included broader assessments of the institutional framework governing international relations and Türkiye’s long-term vision for the future. The November publication focuses heavily on two simultaneous trends developing across a vast territory stretching from Iran to the Horn of Africa.

The publication examines the second maritime front of the US-Iran conflict through Yemen and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Other topics covered in the issue include security concerns regarding Russia in Europe, the security environment in the Black Sea, and preparations for the UN Climate Change Conference, which Türkiye is scheduled to host.
