The top diplomats of Egypt and Iran held a telephone conversation to address ongoing regional tensions and diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalation, according to a statement released on Thursday.
This discussion marked the second phone call between the two officials since Tuesday. Both countries are participating in continuing diplomatic efforts to manage regional stability and revive stalled negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
The ministry reported that the ministers reviewed the latest developments on the regional scene. They discussed ongoing efforts designed to contain current hostilities.
The talks also addressed concerns regarding the possibility of a renewed military confrontation. The officials evaluated the potential repercussions of such a conflict on regional and international security and stability.
During the conversation, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stressed the importance of prioritizing diplomatic solutions. He stated that these measures are essential to reach a political settlement to the ongoing crisis.
Abdelatty called for the necessary flexibility and compromises from all sides. He noted that such steps would serve the interests of every party involved and prevent the region from sliding into a new wave of escalation.
The latest contact forms part of a wider diplomatic push to avert renewed military conflict. Regional actors are attempting to bridge the gap between Washington and Tehran as diplomatic channels remain stalled.
Washington has demanded Iranian concessions over its nuclear program as a strict condition for resuming any formal negotiations. Meanwhile, Tehran has called for the complete lifting of US sanctions, the release of frozen Iranian funds, and permission to resume oil exports.
Military confrontation between Washington and Tehran previously resumed in July following stalled diplomatic efforts to reach a broader settlement. That followed an earlier round of attacks launched by the US and Israel on Iran on February 28, 2026, which eventually led to a ceasefire in April.
