Saudi Arabia Enhances Jamarat Al-Aqaba for Hajj Safety

Saudi Arabia has implemented a world-class engineering and crowd management project to ensure the Jamarat Al-Aqaba ritual remains safe, orderly, and comfortable for Hajj pilgrims. To guarantee the secure movement of millions of pilgrims each year, the massive facility is operated using modern technology, advanced infrastructure, and integrated management systems. The project is overseen by the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites.

The facility is built across multiple interconnected levels, featuring 11 escalator buildings and 10 tunnels.

The entire layout is meticulously designed to control crowd pressure during the ritual of stoning, allowing pilgrims to reach their destinations seamlessly. Ahead of the upcoming Hajj season, the ‍‍`Kadana Development and Investment Company‍‍` has executed extensive maintenance and modernization work. Currently, 340 escalators and 682 modern digital surveillance cameras are active to monitor crowd density. To assist pilgrims and staff, 228 golf carts have also been stationed.

Security remains a top priority, with 295 fire hydrants and 1,078 fire extinguishers installed throughout the facility.

To ensure rapid response to emergencies, over 3,350 automatic sprinklers have been deployed to protect pilgrims. For the comfort of the visitors, 456 air conditioning units are fully operational, complemented by over 74,000 lighting units that ensure adequate visibility. Directional signage has also been renovated, with over 1,216 signs updated to provide clear guidance to pedestrians. Rainwater drainage systems have also been fully prepared for the season.

To maintain order during Hajj, over 28,000 plastic barriers have been installed.

Extensive engineering renovations, including fresh painting of bridges, ramps, tunnels, and basement levels, have been completed. This comprehensive master plan reflects Saudi Arabia‍‍`s relentless efforts to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for the millions of pilgrims visiting this year. The facility is now fully optimized to handle the influx, promising a smoother pilgrimage journey for all.
