US Lawmaker Demands Arrest of Israeli Soldier Linked to Hind Rajab Killing

United States Representative Rashida Tlaib has urged her government to arrest an Israeli military commander allegedly linked to the killing of five-year-old Palestinian girl Hind Rajab in Gaza.

In a social media post on Monday, Tlaib stated that reports placed Israeli soldier Sean Glass inside the United States. She argued that Washington held a direct legal duty to investigate his role in the incident.

As a party to the Genocide Convention and the Geneva Conventions, our government is obligated to arrest and investigate him for these war crimes and acts of genocide, Tlaib wrote.

Tlaib included a report from the Hind Rajab Foundation, an organization that monitors Israeli soldiers accused of committing war crimes during the conflict in Gaza. The advocacy group announced it had submitted an emergency petition to the US Department of Justice seeking the immediate arrest of Glass.

Sean Glass commanded the Vampire Empire Company implicated in the killing of five-year-old Hind Rajab, members of her family, and the medics sent to rescue them, the group said in a statement. HRF’s investigation places him and his troops in the direct vicinity of Hind’s vehicle during the killing, the statement added.

Today, Glass walks free in the United States, the group stated. HRF demands that the US authorities arrest him and bring him to justice.

Hind Rajab was killed on January 29, 2024, in an event that drew international condemnation and turned into a powerful symbol of the suffering of Palestinian children throughout the war.

Rajab and relatives were trying to escape Gaza City when their car was struck by Israeli gunfire, killing family members inside. Rajab survived initially and called emergency dispatchers for help, pleading that she was frightened.

Audio recordings of her telephone plea were broadcast globally. Both the child and the ambulance crew dispatched to rescue her were later killed by Israeli military forces.

The vehicle carrying Rajab sustained 335 bullet holes. Israeli officials initially claimed the damage resulted from a combat exchange with Palestinian fighters.

An investigation by Forensic Architecture found no indication of a firefight, concluding that only Israeli military units operated in the vicinity during the attack.

Israel launched an internal inquiry into the killings, though Palestinians view such measures as tactics to evade accountability. United Nations experts and human rights organizations have characterized the military offensive as a genocide, with the death toll among Palestinians surpassing 74,000, including at least 21,000 children.

The United States continues to provide diplomatic, economic, and military support to Israel despite allegations of war crimes, and has criticized the International Criminal Court for seeking warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant.
