Israeli quadcopter drones set fire to a displacement camp near the Shujaiya junction on Sunday evening. The attack took place at around 8 p.m., according to a ministry statement.
The fire quickly engulfed tents and belongings. More than 200 families, comprising over 800 Palestinians, lost their shelter. The ministry stated that the majority of those affected are women, children, elderly people, and patients.
"The burning of the tents caused severe panic, fear and terror among the families, who were once again left without shelter or an alternative to protect them from harsh conditions," the ministry said.
Officials described the incident as part of an ongoing policy of forced displacement and continuous uprooting. They characterized the attack as a full-fledged war crime and a crime against humanity. The statement added that the action violated international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions designed to protect civilians during armed conflict.
The ministry appealed to the international community, the United Nations Security Council, and human rights organisations, demanding urgent intervention to halt the genocide and ongoing destruction across the Gaza Strip.
Palestinian figures indicate that the Israeli military has intensified its offensive operations in Gaza ahead of the Israeli Knesset elections scheduled for Tuesday. Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian stated on Friday that Palestinian lives had been turned into a winning card in the electoral contest.
An official ceasefire took effect on Oct. 10, 2025. Despite this agreement, the Israeli army has maintained daily attacks across the enclave. Gaza’s Health Ministry reports that these subsequent operations have killed at least 1,551 Palestinians and left 5,573 others injured.
Broader conflict statistics since October 2023 show that Israeli military actions have killed more than 74,000 Palestinians and injured over 175,000 others. Around 90% of the civilian infrastructure within the Gaza Strip has been destroyed.
