At least five people were killed and more than a dozen others wounded in a fresh wave of Israeli ground and air attacks across the Gaza Strip on Monday.
Four Palestinians, including a young girl, died when an Israeli air strike hit a camp for displaced people in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip. Medical sources and first responders confirmed the casualties from the strike in the al-Mawasi area.
Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis stated that the bodies were torn apart by direct hits from shrapnel. Several wounded individuals, including a child and a woman, were also admitted to the facility for emergency treatment.
Gaza’s Ministry of Education identified one of the deceased children as seven-year-old Jouri al-Soufi. The hospital named two other victims as 21-year-old Hossam al-Zamli and 24-year-old Tamer Abu Sneima.
A separate attack in the Remal neighbourhood west of Gaza City left another person dead and several others wounded on Monday. Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that an Israeli drone targeted a group of displaced people inside a tent.
Al-Shifa Hospital confirmed receiving the body of the man killed in the Gaza City drone strike. Palestinian Civil Defence spokesman Mahmoud Basal stated that a total of 11 people were killed and 50 wounded by Israeli fire and air strikes over the preceding 24 hours.
Separately, Israeli forces set fire to a camp for displaced people at the Shujayea junction on Sunday night. Gaza’s Ministry of Public Works and Housing said Israeli quadcopter drones ignited the camp at about 8pm, destroying tents and personal belongings for several hours.
The fire forcibly displaced more than 200 families, accounting for over 800 people, mostly women, children, elderly people and patients. The ministry condemned the incident and appealed for urgent international aid to provide shelter and essential supplies.
Medical sources reported that the war has killed at least 74,555 people and injured 175,727 since it began. Casualties since a United States-brokered ceasefire on October 11 of the previous year have risen to 1,559 dead and 5,608 injured.
Numerous victims remain trapped under rubble and on streets where ambulance and rescue crews have been unable to reach them.
