The United States and Iran have finalized a historic framework deal to end the war that lasted for over 100 days, according to Reuters and BBC News. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, whose country acted as the primary mediator in the intensive negotiations, confirmed late Sunday that both nations had reached an agreement. The official signing ceremony for the peace accord is scheduled to take place this coming Friday in Switzerland. The intense conflict initially erupted on February 28 following coordinated American and Israeli military strikes across Iranian territory.

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed the breakthrough on his Truth Social platform, stating that the landmark agreement with the Islamic Republic is now complete. As a critical component of the arrangement, Trump authorized the immediate, toll-free reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz and ordered the removal of the U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports. Following the high-profile announcement, global crude oil prices fell sharply as energy markets reacted to the stabilization of the critical maritime shipping route.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi verified on state television that the official text of the preliminary framework had been successfully finalized. Iran‍‍`s top military commanders have openly hailed the diplomatic development as a strategic victory for Tehran. What remains unclear is whether this interim step will successfully resolve the long-standing international disputes surrounding Iran‍‍`s nuclear enrichment program. Under the current parameters, a 60-day bilateral ceasefire will be implemented to provide diplomatic space for technical nuclear negotiations.

While the mediation team from Pakistan emphasized that the deal to end the war requires an immediate cessation of hostilities on all regional fronts, Israel has formally expressed strong reservations. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a Hebrew statement asserting that the Israel Defense Forces intend to maintain their positions in security zones within Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza without any time limits. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held urgent consultations with regional counterparts in Turkey, Iraq, and Egypt, emphasizing that a complete halt to external military operations in Lebanon is essential for lasting regional stability.
