The diplomatic engagement comes as a United States official stated that no resolution to end military confrontations would be finalized without addressing Tehran`s nuclear programme. The strategic passage remains heavily restricted amid regional tensions and naval standoffs.
Tehran is now awaiting a formal response from Washington.
Araghchi told Iranian state television that regional mediators would present Tehran`s proposals directly to American interlocutors, with expectations of receiving an answer by Tuesday. He stated that the deliberations focused on actionable mechanisms to meet conditions set by Iran. Rather than remaining in New York to await diplomatic cables, the foreign minister confirmed he would depart for Tehran within hours, noting established lines of communication through Doha.
Backchannel negotiations involving Qatar and Pakistan have taken on increased urgency.
The development follows an Iranian proposal presented on Friday during the United Nations General Assembly. Under the outlined roadmap, Tehran requested the release of frozen overseas financial assets, the removal of economic sanctions, and the termination of naval blockades surrounding Iranian commercial ports. Araghchi indicated that these preliminary steps could be completed within four to five days, allowing maritime trade through the vital waterway to resume ahead of comprehensive nuclear discussions by the seventh day.
United States officials maintain that while diplomatic channels remain active, any final settlement requires verifiable concessions regarding nuclear development.
