Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf Re-elected Iran Parliament Speaker

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has been re-elected as the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) for the seventh consecutive term. Ghalibaf currently serves as a lead negotiator in the sensitive diplomatic discussions between Iran and the United States. The majority of lawmakers voted to keep him in the position during Monday‍‍`s parliamentary session.

State media reported that the MP for Tehran, Ray, Shemiranat, and Eslamshahr secured a clear mandate for the post. His challengers, Osman Salari and Mohammad Taghi Naghdali, failed to garner sufficient votes. During the same session, Ali Nikzad and Hamidreza Hajibabaei were re-elected as the first and second deputy speakers, respectively.

A former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Ghalibaf has been serving as Speaker since 2020. His previous public service includes roles as the Chief of National Police and a long-standing tenure as the Mayor of Tehran from 2005 to 2017. Analysts suggest this re-election consolidates his influence within Iran’s political structure, positioning him as a key figure in managing both regional crises and high-stakes Western diplomacy.
