Mayun Island seized by Yemen Houthis amid clashes

Yemen‍‍`s Houthi fighters seized the strategic Mayun Island in the Red Sea on Sunday, according to reports confirmed by Al Jazeera. The territorial shift solidifies the group‍‍`s presence near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, following intense ground clashes with forces aligned with Yemen‍‍`s internationally recognized government. Maritime observers note that the control of the island directly overlooks critical international shipping corridors.

Beyond the coastal development, Houthi forces have reportedly launched a renewed push toward the northern government stronghold of Marib. In response to the rapid advances, Saudi Arabia conducted multiple airstrikes targeting recently captured positions. The renewed escalation has forced tens of thousands of civilians to flee their homes, worsening the acute humanitarian crisis across the country.

Regional tensions have escalated alongside the battlefield developments.

Reacting to the expanding regional developments, Iranian caretaker Defence Minister Brigadier General Majid Ebn al-Reza stated on Sunday that Tehran is prepared for further confrontation, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency. The Iranian official cautioned officials in Washington against expecting intimidation, asserting that Iran has revealed only a small part of its military capabilities.

Iranian authorities separately stated that their naval forces captured a United States unmanned maritime drone near the Strait of Hormuz.

Military operations across the coastal zones and northern battle lines remain active, and verified casualty figures from both sides have not been independently confirmed.
