A major wildfire on the Croatian island of Brac prompted an emergency alert on Sunday as flames spread toward coastal settlements, Xinhua News Agency and Croatia Week reported. Strong, shifting winds along the Dalmatian coast have significantly hindered efforts to contain the blaze near the western village of Milna. Authorities urged residents in vulnerable areas to follow emergency protocols and prepare for preventative movement.
The fire began burning across dense pine forests and scrub vegetation before accelerating toward populated zones on Saturday evening. Flames rapidly threatened local infrastructure and residential structures near the outskirts of Milna and adjacent bays. In response, emergency officials evacuated more than two hundred residents and tourists overnight as a precautionary safety measure. Maritime rescue teams deployed multiple vessels to assist individuals moving away from threatened shorelines.

Croatian Chief Firefighting Commander Slavko Tucakovic told reporters that no serious injuries had occurred, although several people were treated for smoke inhalation. No casualties or catastrophic structural losses have been confirmed so far. Firefighting crews faced adverse weather as high temperatures and strong gusts pushed spot fires across dry terrain. Volunteer firefighting brigades from across the region were mobilized alongside specialized aerial support units to construct defensive perimeters.
