Drone strikes hit a power station east of Managil on Tuesday, cutting electricity to the area. Local sources said the attacks also targeted a fuel tanker inside an oil depot and a local gas station.
There were no immediate reports of casualties. Details on the extent of the damage to the energy facilities were not immediately available.
The strikes formed part of a wave of drone attacks entering a third consecutive day. These attacks targeted cities under the control of the Sudanese army where direct fighting with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces was not taking place.
The aerial attacks hit locations across Khartoum and Gezira states in central Sudan. They also struck Sennar in the southeast and Gedaref in the east.
The Sudanese Ministry of Energy and Oil announced widespread power outages across large parts of several states on Tuesday, including Khartoum and River Nile. The ministry stated that a power station was put out of service by a drone attack, which it blamed on the Rapid Support Forces.
The Sudan Electricity Company reported on Monday that the Rapid Support Forces targeted five electricity transformer stations with drones. Those strikes hit Sennar, Gedaref and Gezira states.
The United Nations expressed concern on Tuesday over the ongoing drone attacks in Sudan. The international body warned about the severe damage these strikes were causing to civilian infrastructure, particularly following the hits on power stations.
Sudan’s army and the paramilitary group have been locked in a conflict since April 2023. The war erupted due to disagreements over plans to integrate the paramilitary force into the regular military.
International and United Nations estimates indicate that the conflict has killed tens of thousands of people. The war has also displaced nearly 13 million residents while worsening famine and the humanitarian crisis across the country.
