A high-profile Chinese investor delegation has visited Bangladesh to assess potential sites for a proposed 1,000-bed hospital in Sylhet. Financed entirely through Chinese direct investment, the mega healthcare infrastructure project aims to modernize medical services across the northeastern region. On Wednesday, Ariful Haque Chowdhury, the Minister for Expatriates‍‍` Welfare and Overseas Employment, accompanied the foreign delegates during their field inspections.Establishing this facility will drastically reduce the local population‍‍`s dependency on capital city hospitals.

The minister guided the delegation through several strategic locations in the Companyganj sub-district, including the Sadapathar tourist area and the local Hi-Tech Park. He confirmed that the evaluation process to secure the most viable plot for the 1,000-bed hospital in Sylhet has formally commenced. This field trip followed a high-level coordination meeting held at the Sylhet Circuit House on Tuesday evening. Local administrative chiefs participated in the session to align state logistics with investor requirements.

Head of the Chinese delegation Steward Cheong expressed strong optimism regarding the geographic viability and immense healthcare demand in the region. He emphasized that his group would exhaust all corporate resources to secure the necessary long-term capital deployment for the project. District Commissioner Md. Sarwar Alam and senior administrative officers were present during the structural inspection tours.
