Yemeni Army Recaptures Taiz Territory After Houthi Missile Strike

The Yemeni army announced on Friday that its forces, backed by the Popular Resistance, had recaptured several areas in the Taiz province. Troops secured Al-Nidani village, Shaab Al-Sarari, large parts of the Sanamat area, and the Ribat Al-Qarn area in Dhi al-Barh.

Fighting continued on the Saber front during the clashes. Government forces also imposed a siege on the entrances to the Al-Sarari area, according to military statements.

The army reported that the Houthis suffered heavy losses in personnel and equipment. Government forces were working to consolidate their positions in the newly recaptured areas and clear landmines left behind.

Separately, Yemen’s Defense Ministry stated that the Houthis fired a ballistic missile at the Al-Hadara popular market in the Al-Wazi’iyah district of Taiz on Friday. The attack left dozens of civilians dead and wounded, though the ministry did not provide an exact casualty figure.

In response to the market strike, the government-run local authority in Taiz called for the circumstances of the attack to be fully documented. Officials urged that evidence be preserved and subjected to an independent technical examination.

The local authority also urged the United Nations and human rights organisations to support an investigation and ensure accountability for the attack.

Taiz is Yemen’s most populous province and remains bitterly divided. Government forces control the provincial capital and other pockets, while the Houthis hold most of the province after advancing into several rural and coastal areas in recent weeks, including Mokha and Al-Wazi’iyah.

In neighbouring Lahj province, the army’s September Net website reported that government-aligned Nation’s Shield forces struck Houthi positions, vehicles, and commanders under the Dawn of Yemen operation. The website published footage of the strikes but gave no details on casualties or damage.

Meanwhile, the International Organization for Migration stated that the number of people displaced by the latest military escalation in Yemen had risen to 308,653 people, or 51,436 families, by November 3. Taiz hosted the largest number with 135,648 displaced individuals.
