Walid al-Qudaimi, a state minister and cabinet member, shared details of the confrontation on the social media platform X. He stated that the soldiers were killed while defending their territory and dignity during the fierce battle. Al-Qudaimi further claimed that more than 50 Houthi fighters were killed in the engagement, with dozens more reported wounded. As of now, the Houthi movement has not released an official statement or provided a comment regarding the reported clashes.
An officer serving with pro-government forces, who spoke to AFP on the condition of anonymity, described the nature of the fighting. He noted that an additional 23 soldiers were wounded in what he termed intense combat. The officer explained that Houthi militants launched an offensive late Friday night, briefly seizing several government positions. However, government-aligned forces managed to regroup and mount a successful counterattack, regaining control of the sites by dawn on Saturday.
