Eid al-Adha Celebrations Across the Globe This Wee

Following Eid al-Adha celebrations in the Middle East on Wednesday, Bangladesh and several other nations are set to observe the festival on Thursday, May 28. The variation in timing stems from local moon-sighting reports across different geographic regions.Lunar sightings dictate the schedule.

Authorities in Brunei announced that the day of Arafat fell on Wednesday, pushing their Eid al-Adha celebrations to Thursday. Bangladesh confirmed its festival date following a moon-sighting committee meeting held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on May 18.

Security measures have been heightened across Bangladesh to accommodate the festivities. The main congregation is scheduled for 7:30 AM at the National Eidgah in Dhaka, with senior government officials expected to attend.

Multiple prayers will also be conducted at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque and other major venues, including the Dhaka University central mosque. Aside from Bangladesh and Brunei, India, Sri Lanka, and South Africa are also among the nations marking the occasion on Thursday.
