Israeli Forces Displace Thousands and Continue Raids in Hebron

Israeli forces continued their military incursions into Hebron on Tuesday for the eighth consecutive day. Troops raided the Jilada and Ain Deir Baha neighborhoods with large numbers of soldiers and military vehicles.

Local sources reported that the military forced dozens of residents to evacuate their homes in the Ain Deir Baha neighborhood. The ongoing offensive began on October 23 after a shooting at the northwestern entrance of Hebron in the Farsh al-Hawa area left two Israeli soldiers dead.

The army killed the two Palestinians accused of the shooting and tightened restrictions across the city. Military reinforcements were brought to the vicinity of the homes belonging to Ahmad and Hamouda al-Jaba, the individuals accused of the attack.

Soldiers searched the two houses belonging to the al-Ja’ba family. Local sources reported that sounds of digging could be heard inside the properties, though no details were provided about the searches.

Camera footage documented Israeli forces detaining Palestinians at military checkpoints near the Jilada roundabout. Troops searched civilians and subjected them to ill-treatment at the checkpoints.

The Hebron Municipality stated on Tuesday evening that the military offensive had displaced 4,969 Palestinians from 780 families. The operation has involved forced displacement, the demolition of homes, facilities, and shops, and the destruction of local infrastructure.

During the offensive, Israeli forces converted several residential homes into military barracks and raised Israeli flags over them. The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society announced that the army arrested 110 Palestinians in the governorate between the start of the offensive and Wednesday.

These events happen alongside escalating Israeli military attacks and violence against Palestinians across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. This wider violence has continued since Israel launched its war on the Gaza Strip in October 2023.

Actions across the territory include the killing and detention of Palestinians, the demolition of homes and facilities, arson attacks on mosques and vehicles, and the bulldozing of agricultural land. Authorities have also prevented farmers from accessing their fields while expanding illegal settlements.
