Organisers of the Sydney Marathon have responded publicly after an engraving mistake on the official finishers medals inadvertently featured a German stadium instead of a local landmark.
The error was identified shortly after the medals were revealed earlier this week, displaying the Allianz Arena located in Munich, Germany, rather than Sydney`s Allianz Stadium alongside other city highlights.
Addressing the issue on social media, event organisers adopted a lighthearted approach, stating that they would not run away from the mistake and acknowledging that it had generated considerable public interest.
Approximately forty thousand runners are anticipated to participate in the upcoming race scheduled for August 30, which winds past major historical landmarks before culminating at the iconic Sydney Opera House.
What remains unclear is the exact point in the manufacturing chain where the design discrepancy occurred.
Officials confirmed that despite the geographical error, the physical medals distributed to participants will remain unchanged, making each award a unique collector`s item for those crossing the finish line. First Nations artist Ambrose Killian contributed the primary artwork for the front of the medal and associated event lanyards.
