A French court has sentenced two men to prison over a violent armed burglary targeting Italy international goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and his partner at their Paris residence, news agency AFP and Al Jazeera reported. The Paris Criminal Court sentenced the primary orchestrator, twenty-one-year-old Ilyas Kherbouch, to nine years in prison alongside a fine of 80,000 euros. Co-defendant Moktar D received a five-year prison term, with two years suspended subject to probationary terms.
A third defendant accused of helping direct the heist while in custody was formally acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
The incident occurred during the early hours of July 21, 2023, while Donnarumma was contracted to Paris Saint-Germain, prior to his transfer to Manchester City in 2025. Four masked intruders entered the couple’s ninth-floor apartment on Avenue Montaigne via the rooftop. The perpetrators assaulted the footballer, threatened both occupants at knifepoint, and bound them before fleeing with luxury watches, jewellery, and designer goods valued at nearly one million euros.
Prosecuting authorities noted that affluent residential districts across central Paris have faced recurring armed raids by organized groups targeting high-profile public figures. During closing remarks, prosecutors documented multiple high-profile break-ins carried out across the capital between 2022 and 2025. Following the close of proceedings, defense representatives indicated that legal filings concerning the remaining unidentified accomplices remain open under ongoing judicial review.
