Warwickshire all-rounder Jacob Bethell returns for England as the national selectors confirmed white-ball squads for the multi-format tour of Australia. Bethell had been sidelined from competitive cricket since July following a knee injury, but has now recovered to take his place across both the one-day international and Twenty20 formats. The selection also provides maiden senior call-ups for Somerset wicketkeeper-batter Thomas Rew and Hampshire fast bowler Eddie Jack.
Harry Brook will captain both touring squads.
England have prioritized a settled, experienced line-up for the three ODIs as preparation intensifies for next year`s 50-over World Cup in southern Africa. Conversely, the five T20 fixtures feature major squad adjustments to manage player workloads ahead of an intensive three-Test tour of South Africa. National selector Marcus North praised the teenage additions, pointing out Rew`s composure despite his age alongside Jack`s steady development through high-performance pace pathways.
The bilateral series opens on 13 November with the first ODI at Perth Stadium before wrapping up on 2 December in Canberra. That final T20 concludes just one week before England begin their warm-up preparations on South African soil.
England face five separate overseas commitments this winter.
White-ball head coach Brendon McCullum had previously outlined the requirement to balance competitive form in the 50-over arena with active squad rotation elsewhere. The grueling scheduling demands forced management to rest frontline multi-format players from the shortest format, allowing younger county standouts an immediate audition at the highest level.
The 16-man ODI contingent includes Joe Root, Jofra Archer, Ben Duckett, Sam Curran, and Adil Rashid alongside Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker, Tom Banton, Jordan Cox, Henry Crocombe, Liam Dawson, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, and Josh Tongue. The T20 squad incorporates James Coles, Aneurin Donald, Phil Salt, Luke Wood, Rew, and Jack to complete the travelling party.
