Forces aligned with Yemen`s internationally recognised government launched a concentrated series of air strikes targeting Houthi positions and field equipment across the southwestern province of Taiz on Tuesday. Military authorities confirmed that nine separate aerial bombardments were executed throughout the governorate during the coordinated sweep. Operational units concentrated five of the strikes across Dhubab district, while four additional sorties hit fortified installations within the al-Masrakh sector.
Active ground warfare continues along the contested al-Shaqab axis.
Direct confrontations erupted between government soldiers and Houthi fighters south of Taiz, according to field bulletins issued by the Taiz Military Axis Media Center. Amid the escalating bombardment, humanitarian monitors cautioned against a mounting toll among trapped non-combatants. The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedom stated on Tuesday that incoming Houthi artillery fire killed at least five civilians, including a five-year-old girl, and wounded seventeen others across residential communities within the preceding twenty-four hours.
The civil society organization alleged that Houthi batteries launched more than 180 artillery shells and projectiles into civilian neighborhoods, inflicting structural damage on at least seven homes.
The long-running Yemeni conflict originally erupted when Houthi forces seized Sanaa in 2014.
That rebel push forced the sitting administration to relocate, prompting a Saudi-led international military coalition to launch an intervention on behalf of the internationally recognized government the following year. While a United Nations-negotiated armistice in 2022 halted the majority of nationwide frontline combat, security deteriorated sharply this summer. In July, the Iran-aligned faction announced a punitive naval blockade targeting Saudi Arabian seaports alongside maritime cargo moving through the Bab al-Mandeb strait.
Hostilities intensified further during September, when Houthi formations staged a rapid ground offensive against the historic port municipality of Mocha, dislodging loyalist contingents from territorial positions. During the same offensive campaign, rebel forces consolidated their presence along the western coastline and established full garrison control over Mayyun Island, a strategic landmass guarding commercial sea lanes within the maritime channel. The latest aerial operations reflect ongoing efforts by government formations to push back rebel positions amid renewed instability across the southern corridor.
