India secured a four-run victory over New Zealand on Saturday via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in a rain-affected second one-day international in Wellington. The win gave the tourists a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
Wet conditions reduced the contest to a maximum of 47 overs per side and made batting difficult. New Zealand were bowled out for 134 in 41 overs.
Daryl Mitchell top-scored for the hosts with a watchful 55, while captain Mitchell Santner contributed 31. No other home batsman managed more than 11 runs against tight Indian seam bowling and unpredictable bounce.
Gurnoor Brar led the Indian bowling attack with career-best figures of 4-30. He delivered a key double-strike in the 20th over by dismissing Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips cheaply, reducing New Zealand to 53-5.
Auqib Nabi claimed his first two international wickets earlier in the innings, removing openers Will Young and Tim Seifert to finish with figures of 2-31.
In reply, India struggled during their chase under the treacherous conditions. Jacob Duffy rocked the tourists early by dismissing captain Shubman Gill for a golden duck and Virat Kohli for seven, finishing with 3-35.
Kyle Jamieson also took 3-35, making a vital breakthrough by removing top-scorer Shreyas Iyer for 30 to leave India teetering at 86-5.
Rain eventually brought a premature end to the match with India at 113-7 off 26 overs. They were four runs ahead of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern par score of 109.
KL Rahul remained at the crease on 26 alongside Auqib Nabi on one when play stopped. The pair did just enough to put the tourists in front.
India won the rain-affected opening match in Auckland on Wednesday by five wickets after dismissing New Zealand for 185.
The teams travel to Hamilton for the third match of the series on Tuesday, where the tourists will have an opportunity to secure the series victory.
