Google Cloud Outage Disrupts UK Banks and Delivery Services

A technical failure at Google Cloud on Monday disrupted digital banking platforms, major retailers, and parcel delivery services across the United Kingdom. Users reported sudden service losses via the tracking platform Downdetector.

Digital bank Revolut suffered problems that prevented millions of account holders from logging into the application or completing card transactions. The financial platform serves more than 80 million customers worldwide, with 13 million users based in the United Kingdom.

Revolut acknowledged the technical failure publicly. The company stated that several platform features were temporarily unavailable due to a service disruption.

Traditional financial institutions Lloyds Bank and HSBC also encountered operational problems during the incident. Home improvement retailer Screwfix and parcel delivery firm DPD experienced similar difficulties with their digital infrastructure.

Google Cloud confirmed that an infrastructure issue impacted multiple services within its western European facilities. The technical failure specifically struck the company London-based infrastructure network.

"We are experiencing an issue with multiple services in europe-west2 beginning on Monday," the technology corporation said in an official statement.

Engineering teams mobilized immediately to locate the root cause and bring the affected systems back online. Google warned that clients would face ongoing connection instability.

"Our engineering team continues to investigate the issue. We apologise to all who are affected by the disruption," the company added.

Product and engineering specialists worked to restore full system availability. Users faced specific challenges when attempting to use platform workflows or connect to Google Security Operations.

Google confirmed that no temporary workaround existed while engineers investigated the origin of the fault.
