Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has asserted that a Pakistani military drone successfully breached Indian airspace and hovered near Prime Minister Narendra Modi‍‍`s official residence during last year‍‍`s severe bilateral standoff. The head of state revealed that the unmanned aerial vehicle managed to maintain its position over the highly secure zone in the capital for a brief period. Zardari shared the provocative operational claims while addressing a large political assembly of party loyalists in the Moro area of Sindh province.Indian federal authorities have not yet issued an official response to the public assertions.

According to President Zardari, specialized drones belonging to the Pakistan Air Force effectively bypassed India‍‍`s frontline air defense radar networks during the height of the military mobilization. He maintained that these surveillance assets penetrated deep into New Delhi, approaching multiple highly sensitive and strategic government installations. Furthermore, the Pakistani President claimed that his military successfully downed eight Indian fighter jets during the active aerial engagements. However, Zardari did not provide any electronic data, satellite imagery, or intelligence logs during the rally to substantiate the claims.

The underlying military friction originally intensified following a high-casualty militant assault in the disputed Himalayan region. On April 22 last year, a coordinated attack in the Pahalgam area of Indian-administered Kashmir resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, including 25 domestic tourists and a local guide. New Delhi blamed cross-border terrorism for the massacre and executed retaliatory airstrikes inside Pakistani territory. Islamabad swiftly launched counter-offensives, escalating the theater into an active border conflict involving artillery deployments and air sorties.

The sudden escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors triggered intense international panic, raising concerns over an unrestricted regional war. The United States and several European allies quickly intervened, deploying high-level diplomatic channels to separate the combatants. Continuous backchannel mediation by Washington eventually pressured both administrations to agree to a formal cessation of hostilities along the frontier. Zardari‍‍`s sudden public disclosure has effectively disrupted the fragile diplomatic calm that had stabilized the bilateral relationship over the past several months.
