Israeli air attacks on the southern Lebanese town of Kfar Reman early Monday killed at least 11 people, including two children and two medics, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) and the Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera.
According to a detailed report by the NNA, Israeli warplanes struck a three-story residential building in Kfar Reman shortly after midnight. This severe attack resulted in the deaths of nine civilians, including the two minors. Five other residents of the destroyed building were severely wounded and required immediate medical attention. In a separate incident within the same town, an Israeli drone targeted a civilian vehicle, killing two medics who were inside.
Overnight, the Israeli military also carried out a strike on a residential area in the town of Deir al-Zahrani, which was preceded by a forced evacuation warning issued around 2:00 a.m. local time. The Israeli army claimed that it targeted a building near an alleged Hezbollah facility during this operation. These developments come just a day after Israeli air raids killed at least seven people and wounded 20 others in the nearby town of Arab Salim in the Nabatieh district.
The continuous attacks occur despite a temporary framework agreement brokered by the United States between Israel and Lebanon in June. This agreement initiated a "pilot zone" plan, which was intended to serve as a testing ground for the Lebanese army to disarm Hezbollah. The plan also called for a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the border areas. However, Al Jazeera reported that Israel continues to occupy several villages in southern Lebanon and has refused further troop withdrawals.
As a result, the diplomatic process has completely stalled, and the recent wave of Israeli strikes over the past 48 hours has created widespread uncertainty and fear in southern Lebanon. Following the June agreement, many displaced residents had hoped that the violence would permanently cease. Instead, civil defense workers in Kfar Reman stated that they are no longer conducting rescue operations, but are now solely focused on recovering bodies from the rubble.
Reuters reported that the Israeli military did not immediately respond to questions regarding whether it was aware of the presence of medics and children at the targeted locations. According to the latest data from the Lebanese Health Ministry, Israeli strikes have killed more than 4,350 people in Lebanon since the conflict escalated in March, while 179 attacks on ambulance crews have left 135 healthcare workers dead.
