Intense clashes between military forces of Yemen’s internationally recognized government and Houthi rebels have resulted in the deaths of more than 60 people, including civilians, across multiple frontlines, according to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency and Al Jazeera. The heaviest fighting has concentrated in the Taiz and Hodeidah provinces, as well as along the western Red Sea coast.
Yemen’s military announced that it successfully recaptured the strategic Hais district, located south of Hodeidah. This area serves as a vital junction linking the provinces of Hodeidah, Taiz, and Ibb. The escalation in fighting follows a renewed push by Houthi forces toward key regional routes, prompting a robust military response from government troops. Local authorities report that the recent wave of violence has displaced numerous families and severely impacted civilian infrastructure.
Addressing the military developments, Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi stated that Yemen’s armed forces possess the capability to restore complete control over the country`s territory. He warned that the Houthi movement will bear the full consequences of its actions. Emphasizing regional dynamics, al-Alimi declared that Taiz will not serve as a corridor for the group`s foreign backers, making a direct reference to Iran. He asserted that continued miscalculations by the group would ultimately lead to their complete collapse.
Humanitarian agencies have expressed growing concern over the deteriorating situation in the southwestern provinces, where continuous shelling has trapped residents in active combat zones. Medical facilities in Taiz are struggling to cope with an influx of wounded individuals as rescue operations remain constrained by ongoing hostilities. Despite international calls for de-escalation, both sides have reinforced their positions along the western coast.
The latest military confrontations underscore the fragile state of security in Yemen as control over vital trade routes and provincial boundaries remains fiercely contested.
