At the Trishal university campus, dedicated to the poet, a day-long cultural program is honoring his immense contributions to Bengali literature. Prime Minister Tareq Rahman has officially declared this year as ‘Nazrul Year’ to commemorate the milestone. From his vocal opposition to colonial rule to his efforts against social division, Nazrul’s pen remained an uncompromising weapon for justice.

Kazi Nazrul Islam was not just a poet; he was a courageous voice against the constraints of his era. His core belief, that nothing is greater than humanity, remains as relevant today as it was in his own time. His ability to weave Quranic verses alongside Hindu devotional songs reflected his deep-rooted commitment to inclusivity. Whether addressing the rights of women or the struggles of the laboring classes, his works served as a perpetual protest against oppression.

Throughout a prolific career spanning only 43 years, Nazrul gifted the Bengali language with over 2,000 songs and countless literary masterpieces. Iconic works like ‘Bidrohi’ (The Rebel), ‘Agnibina,’ and ‘Samyabadi’ resonate with a timeless power that transcends generations. Resting near the Dhaka University Central Mosque, he continues to be a unifying figure for people of all faiths.
