The United Arab Emirates has halted all commercial flights operated by Iranian carriers to and from the country, joining regional governments enforcing United States sanctions on Tehran`s aviation sector. The decision was announced by the General Civil Aviation Authority through the state-run news agency.
The suspension took effect on Thursday.
Civil aviation regulators stated that the directive was taken in line with Washington`s punitive measures designed to restrict Iranian aircraft from accessing international airports. The Emirates joins Oman, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkmenistan, which have all curtailed or barred Iranian airline operations amid warnings of secondary sanctions. The measure directly impacts vital transit corridors linking Tehran to the Gulf.
Dubai serves as the central international gateway for Iranian travel.
The commercial hub hosts an extensive Iranian business community and operates multiple daily scheduled services connecting to Iranian cities. Reflecting the immediate impact of the ban, an Iran Airtour service bound for Dubai was cancelled at Tehran airport shortly before scheduled takeoff on Thursday morning, despite passenger tickets already being processed.
