Islamic Perspective: The Best Assets for Your Kids

Children are a trust bestowed by Allah (SWT). It is the duty of parents to protect and guide them, preparing them for a future that is not only materially secure but spiritually grounded. While people often equate security with financial wealth, Islam teaches that true lasting assets are those that foster integrity, God-consciousness, and self-reliance in a child.True security lies in the moral and spiritual growth of a child.

Islam discourages leaving heirs empty-handed and dependent on others. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) told Sa‍‍`d ibn Abi Waqqas (RA), "It is better for you to leave your heirs affluent than to leave them poor and begging from others." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith: 1295). However, true affluence is more than just land or bank accounts, which can be depleted. A faithful parent’s greatest task is to leave behind assets that ensure a child is honored in this world and successful in the hereafter.Iman (Faith) serves as the foundation for a child‍‍`s life.

Nurturing a child as a believer from a young age is paramount. Without the fear of Allah, material wealth can become a source of ruin. As stated in the Holy Quran, "O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones." (Surah at-Tahrim, 66:6).

Character and Adab are invaluable assets in society.

Virtues such as honesty, trustworthiness, and fulfilling the rights of others are qualities that elevate an individual. The Prophet (SAW) noted that a father can give his child no greater gift than excellent manners. (Jami at-Tirmidhi, Hadith: 1952). These behavioral assets provide the strength a child needs to navigate life‍‍`s challenges.Religious and contemporary education go hand-in-hand.

Ignorance often leads to exploitation and impulsive decisions. Therefore, parents should aim to foster analytical and skilled individuals, as a "strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than a weak believer." (Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 4168). A holistic approach to knowledge—covering both the faith and the world—is essential for empowerment.Teaching the ability to earn a Halal living is a vital responsibility.

The Prophet (SAW) stated, "Nobody has eaten a meal better than that which he has earned with his own hands." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith: 2072). Business acumen and an understanding of Halal investment not only empower a child to thrive financially but also enable them to contribute to the needs of the Muslim Ummah. The greatest security is the constant Dua of one‍‍`s parents.

Surrounding children with a righteous environment and establishing a connection with the Quran creates a legacy beyond any monetary value. Parents who raise children who fear Allah and benefit others with their knowledge and character create a source of Sadaqah Jariyah that continues even after they are gone. (Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 4115).
