When reviewing the lives of those who have left a lasting legacy in history, it becomes evident that none of them reached the pinnacle of achievement overnight. They navigated countless failures, overcame significant obstacles, and endured adversity to reach their goals. Islam does not disregard this reality; rather, it elevates work and effort to a form of worship, considering this world a field of action for the hereafter.
Within the Islamic worldview, there is no place for laziness or passive reliance on destiny. Allah has commanded mankind to cultivate the earth through action and has presented effort as the fundamental prerequisite for success. In the Holy Quran, Surah An-Najm (53:39) clearly declares, And that there is not for man except that
for which he strives. This verse serves as a divine reminder that meaningful achievement, whether in this world or the next, is impossible without earnest effort. According to classical scholars, effort is not merely a physical act but an act of worship when performed with the correct intention.True success, as defined by Islam, is not confined to worldly gains but extends to eternal liberation. Paradise and divine pleasure are not easily attained; they require testing one`s faith through continuous struggle. Those who exert effort for the sake of Allah find that He eases the path of guidance for them. Surah Al-Ankabut (29:69) states, And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good. When a believer sincerely strives to remain on the path of truth, they are never left alone; rather, Allah opens doors of opportunity and facilitates their journey toward ultimate success.
This pursuit of success must be anchored in seeking Allah`s pleasure. When a believer performs their obligatory duties while simultaneously fulfilling their professional responsibilities and pursuing knowledge, every action transforms into worship. Surah Al-Isra (17:19) highlights this balanced approach, stating, But whoever desires the Hereafter and exerts the effort due to it while he is a believer - it is those whose effort is ever appreciated
. This verse underscores that every small endeavor, when aligned with the intention of pleasing the Creator, becomes a treasure in the afterlife. Ultimately, perseverance and diligence are not just survival tools, but the primary keys to a life of fulfillment for the believer.
